South African film director and writer Oliver Hermanus shows his tattoo inspired by Salvador Dali's 'Curtain of Eyes'. Oliver's graduation film, 'Shirley Adams', premiered in competition at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2009. In 2011 his film 'Skoonheid' was invited to compete in the Un Certain Regard competition at the 64th Cannes Film Festival. 'Skoonheid' won the Queer Palm on May 24th 2011. Oliver's third feature film, 'The Endless River' is currently in post-production with a mid 2015 release date.

His work often explores themes relating to political and environmental and identity in contemporary society.

In the Boks' home match at Ellis Park in Johannesburg against the All Blacks, he became only the second Springbok in history (after Ray Mordt in 1981) to score a hat-trick of tries against the All Blacks. Joubert was also for a time South Africa's leading try scorer in Tri-Nations play, with six tries, before being overtaken by Breyton Paulse.
